Magnesium, Zinc and chromium are minerals that are required in modest amounts to maintain health and optimal physiologic function. For physically active persons, adequate amounts of these micronutrients are needed in the diet to ensure the capacity for increased energy expenditure and work performance. Chromium levels and intakes are difficult to estimate because of lack of a good database.

All three minerals imrpove physical performance when they are at their optimum levels within the body, but care should be taken when supplementing to ensure that too much of any individual or group of vitamins is not taken in excess, which can be detrimental to health, and also upset the balance of the other essential minerals.
